UAB “Elsis TS” commenced the implementation of the project “Hardware Solution for Extremely Low Delay Compression / Decompression of Video Stream for Reliable Transmission in Real Time” (E!6083 FASTViD), financed by the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA), performed within the framework of “Eurostars” international innovation programme.
In this project UAB Elsis TS participates jointly with their partners – “Vitec Multimedia” (France, Project Coordinator), Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania), and “Unibrain S.A.” (Greece).
The purpose of the project is to develop a prototype of integrated wireless communication video transmission chip for extremely low delay (maximum 30 ms) encoding / decoding (compression / decompression) of video as well as audio stream and prepare the same for commercial application. The idea of the project is based on recently developed innovative algorithms, which enable starting video frame encoding / decoding without waiting for all necessary information to be received, thereby lowering the delay time.
Today there are many solutions developed in the world that are intended for video and audio encoding / decoding, however, the main purpose thereof is quality encoding / decoding irrespective of the length of process itself. Where using present-day algorithms, video stream frame encoding takes place for approximately 200 ms. The purpose of this project is to based on innovative algorithms develop a chip to encode one frame within 10-30 ms. This can only be achieved by performing video stream encoding / decoding without buffering the information of full frame stream.
UAB “Elsis TS” jointly with their partners will aspire to develop the driver and the software for selected hardware solution with the chips applicable in home multimedia networks by transmitting video by means of wireless communication to remote screens and videophones in laptops, mobile phones, game consoles, TV sets, projectors, and such other screens.
Total funds for this international project amount to 1.89 million EUR, whereas the Lithuanian part totals 0,254 million EUR (13 percent). It is planned that following successful implementation of the project the potential market share of the product may reach 1 million EUR and in a few years increase up to 10 million EUR and more.
